Hot Mulled Wine

  • 750 ml red wine (zinfandel or merlot)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) water
  • 1/4 cup (28 g) demerara or turbinado sugar
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 whole nutmeg, cracked open (or 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg)
  • 1 orange, peeled in wide strips
  • 1 lemon, peeled in wide strips
  • 1 orange, thinly sliced
  1. Combine the wine, water, sugar, cloves, cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, and lemon and orange strips in the pot and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Cook for 20 minutes, then serve hot in mugs with slices of orange.
