Butternut Squash Au Gratin with Mushrooms and Bacon

Butternut Squash Au Gratin Recipe with Mushrooms and Bacon - Andrea Meyers

I think this post officially beats my record for the earliest Thanksgiving recipe, but I can’t help it; this butternut squash au gratin is just too good to wait until Turkey Day. Make it for Sunday dinner sometime with roasted chicken, turkey, or pork, and then again for Thanksgiving dinner. It’s definitely a keeper.

Persian Jeweled Rice, aka Wedding Rice (The Kids Cook Monday)

Persian Jeweled Rice Recipe (The Kids Cook Monday) - Andrea Meyers

Fragrant rice dishes are one of my favorite food memories from my time in the Middle East. Widely known as pilaf (aka polow, pilav, pilau, pulao, and other names), these rice dishes vary in texture and ingredients based on the country of origin. Pilafs may include spices, meat, nuts, dried fruits, and vegetables, and have…

Moroccan Roasted Salmon Recipe with Mango Salsa and Quinoa Spinach - Andrea Meyers

School has started again, and just like every year, we get crazy busy with school activities, sports, and other things that fill our weeknights and weekends. Mediterranean Spinach and Bean Salad

Mediterranean Spinach and Bean Salad Recipe - Andrea Meyers

A few weeks ago, after a good treadmill workout at the gym, I stopped in the café to grab a quick and healthy smoothie for lunch. They had some prepared salads in the cooler and I stopped to check out the selection, and this bean and spinach salad caught my eye. I adore garbanzo beans…

Eggplant and Tomato Pilaf with Greek Yogurt

Fruit Salad Recipe with Kiwi, Strawberries, and Mango - Andrea Meyers

When I started writing this blog in 2006, my boys were all very young. I was pregnant with Monkey Boy, and the other two were still in diapers, so they weren’t much help in the kitchen. Still, I wanted them to start learning about cooking at an early age, so I had a laundry basket…

Egg and Cheese Casserole Recipe with Feta, Spinach, Mushrooms, Peppers, and Tomatoes (The Kids Cook Monday) - Andrea Meyers

My boys and I enjoy having breakfast for dinner. I’ll occasionally whip up pancakes or waffles in the evening, but mostly I adore quiches and breakfast casseroles at dinner time. Of course they are great for weekend brunch, too, when you have a little extra time to prepare in the morning. I like to load…

Tomato and Raisin Chutney

Tomato and Raisin Chutney - Andrea Meyers

I remember August of last year very clearly. Our tomato plants were producing like crazy, and we were bringing in five to ten pounds each night. Michael and I looked at each other and said it was time to get a pressure canner. Until then, I’d only canned high-acid tomato recipes, and seven years ago…
