Where can I get helpful information on starting a food blog?
A: We do not nor will we ever sell personally identifying information about you. Visit our Privacy page for more information.
Q: Do you sell advertising space on your site?
A: Yes I sell advertising space, but only through my advertising networks. If you would like to purchase advertising space, please contact Federated Media or Today’s Mama.
Q: Do you have any recipes for people with food allergies?
A. When cooking for someone with food allergies, always communicate with them and discuss their needs to ensure food safety. For more information on cooking for people with food allergies, visit The Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network or Kids With Food Allergies.
I learned about cooking for people with gluten allergies through my sister, who was diagnosed with celiac disease as an adult, though I am no expert in this matter. I’ve tagged recipes gluten-free when the recipe is completely gluten-free, though sometimes it might contain ingredients that come in both regular and gluten-free versions, such as pasta. If you cook for someone who needs gluten-free ingredients, please check the recipe ingredients list thoroughly and make sure all your ingredients are indeed gluten-free.
Q: Can you post instructions or a picture of the Superman/R2D2 cake?
A: We do not have any photos of those cakes, which were made years ago by Michael’s brother Jeff Meyers, the person responsible for starting the family tradition. He’s quite creative and talented and actually made the Superman cake when he was a young teen.
Q: I posted a comment, but I don’t see it on your site yet.
A: Unfortunately some legitimate comments are flagged as spam and held for moderation, but I de-spam the legitimate comments a couple times a day. Once I do that, your comment will show up.
Q: Do you do all of the work on this site yourself?
A: I make the food (except when documenting someone else’s cooking), take the photos, write the content, and do most of my own tech work (use WordPress as my blogging platform and modify themes created by others). There’s a handful of supporting photos scattered here and there that are not mine, and you’ll notice that those photos do not have my watermark on them.
Q: What’s your review policy?
A: As of 2013, no longer write product reviews or do sponsored giveaways. Generally, I only mention products that I use regularly in my kitchen, but I am also open to trying new things. If a product is not a good fit for my blog or turns out to be something that does not resonate with me, I don’t mention it. Products that I like and use will get mentioned in social media and/or in the context of recipes I create. If I use the products in a recipe, I usually mention it in the Recipe Notes area where I recommend a particular brand. And I always disclose if I have a relationship with the brand. If you would like me to try your products, please contact me for further information. I do not guarantee a response to all emails.
Q: May I use one of your photos or blog posts?
A: All of my original photos, recipes, and text are copyrighted. Please be courteous and ask before you use any of my work, whether for noncommercial or commercial purposes. My watermark should remain intact on the photo. I also request a link back to the original post to give proper credit. If you would like permission to use some of my work for commercial purposes (i.e. print in a magazine, newspaper, book, or other such use), please contact me for further information. I am a professional photographer and can discuss licensing with you.
Q: Will you link to my blog/site?
A: My blogroll is a personal thing; it reflects what I enjoy reading. My blogroll changes about once a month as I add blogs that I like and delete blogs that no longer publish.
Q: I’m starting a food site/blog. Will you please take a look and tell me what you think of it?
A: I wish that I could help out everyone who contacts me, but with my busy work schedule and family life it’s simply not possible, so please don’t be offended if you do not get a response.
Q: Where can I get helpful information on starting a food blog?
A: Food Blog Forum and Food Blog Alliance are excellent resources, and the members make them great and helpful communities. Visit those sites for information on how to join.
