All I can say is — WOW. (And what a fun project to share.)

  2. What a great cake! There is something about these fantastic custom-made cakes that kids will always remember. When we were kids, my mom made one of us a castle birthday cake. We still talk about it today.

Adorable cake! This is the stuff of childhood memories – parents collaborating to make a one of a kind cake.

  4. Wow! Your boys are so lucky to have parents who make them such incredible birthday cakes! I’ll bet one day they’ll do the same for their own kids.

What lucky kids you have to have a dad that are so involved in their upbringing and also in adding to the fun and joy of their birthday parties.
Thank you for sharing this excellent photo tutorial as well as the recipes and some of the problems and solutions you had when putting the train cake together.

Thank you so much for posting this! Your timing is fantastic, my son has been asking for a Thomas cake for his upcoming birthday – now maybe I have a chance at tackling it myself!

  7. Very cool. Soon you’ll have the entire cast of trains around your house in cakes. I think it might be time for a trip to London where Thomas lives.

  8. Wow! How lucky can a little boy be? Wish him happy birthday for me. You’re sending pix to Duff, aren’t you? Make sure you have hard copies for memories. Thank you so much for sharing.

This is something your kids will always remember. I am so impressed – I think you should start a side business!

Thanks everyone! It’s a lot of fun, especially when we see how excited the boys get over the cakes.

Diane, I think London sounds fantastic! Remind me to book that trip…

Sharlene, we haven’t sent any pix to Duff, but we feel he should get inspirational credit.

Lynda, I don’t think we could do this more than three times a year! :-)

  11. This is just amazing. My three year old is crazy for all things Thomas (aren’t most of them?) and would just DIE. I’m not sure I’m that talented though! Ha!

it is really cute that you guys do this.

  13. I love that you are a year ahead of us! We made your rocket cake 2 years ago, might be making Toby for the big 7 birthday in September this year. Thank you always for the ideas and inspiration!

Thank you so much for sharing my 3 year old daughter was just telling me she wants a Toby birthday for her next birthday so I was looking to see if I could even pull that one off. Thank you very much!!!
