Happy Anniversary! I’m glad your cake turned out in the end.
    What a great hubby.
I will share with you my stupidest mistake with this project – I toasted the hazelnuts in the toaster oven on a piece of aluminum foil with the edges curled up so that they don’t escape. Ok, fine.
I then decide to chop them on the same foil so they don’t roll away and spent the next half hour separating the tiny shards of foil out of my hazelnuts.
I actually find it comforting to read about other db’s foibles.
Cheers and congrats – you Daring Baker!

  21. Deborah says:

  22. linda says:

It really looks perfect considering all the mishaps! I’m not sure I would have finished the cake if I had so much bad luck. Great job!

  23. Wow! Your husband is a lucky guy to get such a fabulous birthday cake! I think everyone had a few mishaps with this one, but it was all worth it in the end, and your cake looks gorgeous! You managed to patch it all together!

  24. Lauren says:

I must say that regardless of the missteps, your cake looks beautiful!

  25. kellypea says:

Took me forever to get over here, but I’m wishing I had a small piece of that right now. It was quite the ordeal, wasn’t it? Regardless of your inclusion of it in your “Top Ten…” it looks good to me. I completely forgot to put the apricot glaze on mine and didn’t realize it until I was done and saw the jar sitting on the counter. Jeez!
